Articles

You’ll find here three categories of articles:

(1) Blogs, which I refer to as “strøtanker” (a Danish word), based on my musings and ideas and intended for all who wonder and ponder.

(2) Science articles containing references for further study, based on theoretical and empirical research (more approachable for the beginner student).

(3) Journal-style academic papers that meet the strictest standards for validity and verifiability, with adequate references to allow you to evaluate my findings (for graduate students and fellow scientists).

May you enjoy your reading—and feel free to leave a comment. As a member, you are part of my team, and I value your input.

The Canine Hip Nudge Behavior

The hip nudge is a common canine behavior. Dog owners often think their dogs are pushy or impolite when they turn their backs to them, sometimes even pushing them. Nothing could be farther from the truth. A hip nudge is a behavior a dog shows when it nudges another...

Canine Maternal Behavior

Watching dog mothers take care of their pups continues to fascinate me, after the extensive research my team conducted in the 1980s. The large populations of village dogs in Africa and Thailand, where I spent and spend much time, provide me with plenty...

Laughter Among Humans and Nonhumans

I’m a Citizen of the World

I’m a Citizen of the World

“I’m a citizen of the World,” I say when asked where I come from—and I am, in mind and heart. Diogenes, in about 412 BC, was probably the first to use the expression and express the very same sentiment. Socrates (469-399 BC) concurred: “I am not an Athenian or a...
