Articles
You’ll find here three categories of articles:
(1) Blogs, which I refer to as “strøtanker” (a Danish word), based on my musings and ideas and intended for all who wonder and ponder.
(2) Science articles containing references for further study, based on theoretical and empirical research (more approachable for the beginner student).
(3) Journal-style academic papers that meet the strictest standards for validity and verifiability, with adequate references to allow you to evaluate my findings (for graduate students and fellow scientists).
May you enjoy your reading—and feel free to leave a comment. As a member, you are part of my team, and I value your input.

The Ocean Accepts no Sham
“The ocean accepts no sham” is a maritime saying. The sea is shockingly honest and uncompromising. Excuses, rationalizing, compassion, self-pity, ignorance, political correctness, yapping, and baloney cannot get you out of trouble on the big blue. In our wealthy and...
Do Animals Have Feelings?
Coining a New Term: Anthropodimorphism Do Animals Have Feelings? Attributing human characteristics to non-human animals is wrong — no doubt about that. Furthermore, it seems to me, that the opposite (of anthropomorphism) is as wrong, that is, to say that...
The Magic Words “Yes” and “No”
Yes and no are two short words and, yet, they convey the most important information many living beings receive. On one level, this information regulates their organic and cellular functions; on another, their behavior, and ultimately, their survival. If I say these...
Signal and Cue—What is the Difference?

Should We Reinforce the Effort or the Result?
Introduction: the problem The main difficulty in some learning processes is to reinforce the right behavior at the right time, which bad teachers, bad parents, and bad trainers do not master (bad means inefficient, and it is not a moral judgment). If you ask, “should...
How Wolves Change Rivers
In 1926, there were no wolves remaining in Yellowstone, the species’ former native home. Between 1977 and the re-introduction in 1995, we have reliable reports of wolves being seen throughout the park. Most of them were either lone wolves or pairs, probably only...
Givers and Takers—An Evolutionary Approach
Wouldn’t it be nice if we all gave expecting nothing in return? What a beautiful world we would have. At one time or another, most of us have embraced such thoughts. But is it possible at all? Is it possible for all of us to become givers—no takers at all? An...
